Are you already in Norway and wondering how to start working? Looking for flexible side jobs might be difficult and confusing, but don’t worry—it’s more manageable than you think, especially when you use Time2Staff.
Time2Staff is a platform that connects people like you to real job opportunities in Norway’s hospitality and service industry. No long applications. No interviews. Just sign up, apply for jobs, and start working.
Here’s what you need to know before you begin.
First things first: permit
Check your status in Norway with UDI office. If you don’t already have a Norwegian ID number (personnummer), you’ll need a D number to work legally. It’s a temporary ID used for people staying in Norway for less than 6 months—like exchange students, temporary workers, or internationals just getting started.
You usually need a D number to:
Get paid
Open a bank account
Pay taxes
You can apply for it through the Norwegian Tax Administration (Skatteetaten) or UDI (Norwegian Directorate of Immigration), depending on your situation. Expect it to take a few weeks to process. But for checking legal requirements and detailed information on who is eligible for work permit you need to find out on the UDI website.
Stay reachable
While it’s not required, it really helps to have a Norwegian phone number when applying for jobs. It makes communication easier for both employers and the Time2Staff platform. But even if you only have an international number, that’s okay—just make sure it’s working and that you can answer calls or messages when needed.
What kind of jobs can you get with Time2Staff?
Time2Staff offers location-based jobs all across Norway. That means you’ll see shifts available in the cities or areas near you.
Here’s a list of common job types on the app:
Waiter / Waitress
Bartender
Barista
Housekeeper
Kitchen Assistant
Cook / Chef

Some of these jobs may sound complicated, but many don’t require much experience. Hospitality is often about energy, friendliness, and delivering good service—skills you can learn quickly, especially with our tips and training articles on the blog.
And yes—you can work even if you don’t speak Norwegian. English is enough for most jobs posted on Time2Staff.
